The Heart Rate Trends screen in Healthypi Move provides users with a detailed view of their heart rate data over time, offering insights into their cardiovascular health.

Heart Rate

At the top of the screen, the current heart rate is displayed prominently, showing the instantaneous beats per minute (bpm) along with a timestamp indicating the exact time the reading was taken. This allows users to monitor their heart rate continuously and track its fluctuations.

Note

On-device trends will be released in a future update of the firmware. For now, users can see the Heart rate trends from the app and the process for the same is described in this section

Raw PPG

A Photoplethysmogram (PPG) is a non-invasive optical technique used to measure changes in blood volume within the microvascular tissue. It operates by detecting variations in light absorption as blood flows through the blood vessels, offering insights into cardiovascular health. The raw PPG signal consists of both an alternating current (AC) component and a direct (DC) component. The AC component is the pulsatile component of the PPG signal and is due to the change in blood volume in the blood vessels as the heart beats. The DC component, on the other hand, is due to light absorption by the skin, muscle, and bone and is not useful for measuring the heart rate or oxygen saturation.

The DC component is usually removed by high-pass filtering of the PPG signal, leaving only the AC component. The resultant AC waveform is then used to calculate the heart rate, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), and blood pressure on HealthyPi Move.

Real-Time Streaming of PPG

  • To begin streaming the Raw PPG, click on the Raw PPG button located at the bottom of the Heart Rate screen. Once activated, the system will start streaming raw PPG data in real-time.

  • As the PPG stream begins, the system will continuously update the heart rate based on the raw PPG data. This allows for a live view of heart rate offering immediate insights into cardiovascular and respiratory health.

  • To exit the PPG streaming mode and return to the Heart Rate screen, a downward swipe or motion on the PPG screen should trigger a redirection.
